BACKGROUND
Shangri-La is a branded, vintage retail clothing store for people who don’t want to support a fast-fashion market. Design elements are inspired by classic design and reinvented for a modern experience.

CONCEPT
The warm tones found in vintage photography and clothing heavily influenced the visual style. Modern typefaces are implemented so that they would not compete with the complex patterns and colors. Geometric patterns are applied to a print ad campaign, fliers, and merchandise. We created print collateral such as hang tags, business cards, and note cards.

The brand was then extended to include a hand-coded e-commerce website and printed zine. Three different types of photo shoots were organized and art directed to create content for both of those deliverables. The first was a studio product shoot for the website. The second shoot was at a physical vintage store, Indian Summer, located in Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The store owner generously let us stage our collateral throughout the store and take photos. The third photo shoot was specifically for the zine. We asked our classmates to bring in their favorite piece of clothing and we interviewed them regarding their garments. The style of the zine shows detailed and intimate photography, which highlights the texture and tone of the clothing.
